Compliance Check Turns Deadly

Riverside County Sheriff’s deputies engaged in a chilling confrontation that resulted in the fatal shooting of an individual during a probation compliance check on Monday morning.

Probation Compliance Violated

Around 8 a.m., deputies from the Riverside Alternative Sentencing Program arrived at a residence on Albillo Loop in Perris to conduct the check. Upon arrival, they encountered several adults in the backyard.

False Identity and Refusal to Obey

Events took a dangerous turn when one of the individuals provided false identification and attempted to flee, disregarding the deputies’ orders to stop. As they attempted to restrain him, a taser deployment proved ineffective.

Deadly Confrontation

The situation escalated when the fleeing individual produced a handgun, prompting a deputy-involved shooting. The man was struck by gunfire and unfortunately succumbed to his injuries after being transported to a nearby hospital.

Investigation Underway

The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office has assigned a detective to investigate the shooting through the sheriff’s department’s Force Investigation Detail. The names of the deceased individual and the involved deputy are being withheld at this time.

Policy and Procedure

As part of department protocol, the deputy involved in the shooting has been placed on paid administrative leave.

No Further Injuries

No other individuals, including deputies or civilians, sustained injuries during the incident.
