NFL Star’s Unexpected Exit: Billy Price Retires After Critical Surgery

Breakout NFL center Billy Price announced his sudden retirement this weekend, a decision fueled by a life-altering medical emergency that left him facing the brink of internal bleeding.

An Unforeseen Obstacle

The 29-year-old pro took to social media to share his harrowing experience. On April 24th, he underwent emergency surgery to remove a “saddle clot” that had insidiously penetrated both of his lungs. This unprovoked pulmonary embolism, devoid of any underlying medical explanation, left him reeling in disbelief.

“I am truly thankful to be alive today,” Price expressed. “Unfortunately, I will be retiring from the NFL as the risk of an internal bleed while on blood thinners creates tremendous risk.”

A Rising Star’s Journey Cut Short

Drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in 2018, Price had carved a promising career in the NFL. Over three seasons with the Bengals, and a subsequent stint with the New York Giants in 2021, he amassed 69 career games, including 45 starts.

Gratitude Amidst Adversity

Price remains indebted to the opportunities football has afforded him. “I am truly thankful for the opportunity to have played in some of the greatest atmospheres around the world,” he said. “I am thankful to have trained and played alongside men who will continue to make Pro Bowls, All Pro Rosters, and Hall of Fame recognitions.”

His heartfelt message extended to his devoted wife: “This career would not have been possible without your continued love and support. The sacrifices you have made over the course of my career do not go unnoticed. I cannot wait to navigate the next chapter in life with you as we continue to grow our family.”

A New Chapter Begins

Billy Price’s abrupt retirement serves as a sobering reminder of life’s unexpected turns and the importance of cherishing every moment. As he transitions away from the competitive gridiron, his unwavering spirit and gratitude provide hope for a fulfilling future beyond the NFL.
