During a supervised social studies class, fourth-grade students engaged in an inappropriate game that forced Black students to stand apart. Laura Burkart, the school’s principal, acknowledged the incident in a letter to parents but omitted an apology.

Parents Speak Out on Segregation

A distressed parent, whose African American daughter was subjected to the segregation game, expressed her disappointment. She claimed that Burkart’s response was inadequate and lacked any remorse. However, she confirmed that the students involved in the game had apologized.

The parent’s account reveals that white students denied her daughter entry to their imaginary schoolhouse and excluded her from play solely because of her skin color.
