Tragic Collapse: Construction Crane Plunges on Busy FL Bridge


A tragic construction accident occurred on Thursday afternoon in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, when a section of a construction crane plummeted onto a busy bridge, resulting in one fatality and two injuries.

Horror on the Bridge

At approximately 4:30 p.m., first responders rushed to the Southeast 3rd Avenue Bridge, which spans the New River, following reports of a collapsed crane.

Platform Failure

Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue officials disclosed that a platform holding equipment failed, causing the items to fall onto the bridge below.

One Life Lost

Tragically, Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue Chief Stephen Gollan confirmed that a construction worker succumbed to the incident. Their identity has yet to be released.

Injured Victims

Two other individuals sustained minor injuries and were transported to the Broward Health Medical Center.

Extensive Damage

Images and footage of the incident show a large piece of the crane on top of a black car, its windshield shattered by the impact. The road surface beneath the collapsed crane also suffered damage.
