Heavy rain, gusty winds and high surf in store for Southern California this weekend

Be Aware, Beachgoers: High Surf Advisory in Effect

Attention, wave enthusiasts and beachgoers! LA News Center reports that a High Surf Advisory will be in place for Malibu, Ventura, and Los Angeles County beaches starting Saturday at 9:00 AM. The National Weather Service warns of large breaking waves up to 8 feet tall and dangerous rip currents. These conditions can pose a serious threat to swimmers and surfers, potentially causing injury, drowning, or equipment capsizing. Stay alert and avoid the water during this period.

Rain, Rain, Go Away: Two Rounds of Downpours Expected

Prepare for a wet weekend, SoCal! A powerful storm system from the Central Coast is bringing two rounds of heavy rain to the region. The first round is predicted to hit Saturday afternoon, delivering half an inch to an inch of rainfall in Los Angeles and Ventura counties. The second round is expected to arrive on Sunday afternoon, accompanied by possible thunderstorm activity. Inland areas may experience less precipitation, but the showers will still be noticeable. Drive cautiously and be mindful of poor visibility during these rainy periods.

Gusty Winds to Add an Extra Challenge

In addition to the high surf and rain, gusty winds will also be a significant factor this weekend. A Wind Advisory has been issued for the Santa Clarita Valley and San Bernardino County mountain communities, as well as Apple and Lucerne valleys. The winds could cause property damage, power outages, and hazardous driving conditions. Secure any loose outdoor items and be prepared for potential wind-related disruptions.

Snow in the Mountains, Sunshine on the Way

Mountain communities above 4,000 feet can expect a snowy weekend, with two to five inches of snow possible. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for northern Ventura County, the Santa Clarita Valley, and San Bernardino County mountain communities until Sunday evening. There is also a 20% chance of light snowfall on the Grapevine. After Sunday’s rain, the sun is forecasted to return next week, bringing clear skies and warmer temperatures. Make the most of the weekend, stay safe, and enjoy the changing weather patterns!
