LAPD Halts Another Dangerous Street Takeover in South Los Angeles
Once again, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has taken action to curb the rising trend of illegal street takeovers in the city. Early Sunday morning, officers shut down a gathering that featured a barrage of fireworks and reckless driving at the intersection of South Figueroa Street and West Vernon Avenue in South L.A.
Throughout the night, a large group of people occupied the intersection for over an hour, setting off fireworks and engaging in dangerous driving maneuvers, as captured by footage from stringer-service Onscene.TV. When police arrived on the scene, numerous participants fled in their vehicles, causing several near-collisions.
LAPD’s Ongoing Battle Against Illegal Street Takeovers
The ongoing issue of illegal street takeovers has prompted the L.A. City Council to implement a plan in February aimed at combating the gatherings and reckless driving associated with these events.
The LAPD remains vigilant in its efforts to put an end to these illegal and dangerous activities. Unfortunately, earlier this month, a woman was tragically injured at an illegal street takeover in South L.A. after being struck by a vehicle. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
The LAPD urges the public to report any information related to illegal street takeovers by calling the non-emergency number at (877) 275-5273.
