On April 17, K9 Kid and his handler, Deputy Stephen E. Williams, responded to a call about an assault with a deadly weapon in Compton. The operation took a perilous turn when Kid was shot by the suspect, but fortunately, his bulletproof vest partially deflected the bullet.
