LAX in Overhaul: Revamped Terminals to Enhance Navigation Before World Cup, Olympics

2

In a bid to streamline airport navigation and prepare for the influx of international visitors during the 2026 FIFA World Cup and 2028 Olympic Games, Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is set to undergo a significant reorganization.

Consolidating Terminals for Improved Flow

The heart of the changes lies in the merger of several terminals. Proposed Concourse 0, an extension of Southwest Airlines’ facilities, will be integrated with Terminal 1, retaining the latter’s name. Terminals 2 and 3 will amalgamate to create a consolidated Terminal 2. The Tom Bradley International Terminal, currently known as Terminal B, will be renamed Terminal 3.

Renumbering and Streamlining

Terminals 7 and 8 will become a unified Terminal 7, while the planned Terminal 9 will be renumbered as Terminal 8. All other terminal numbers will remain unchanged.

Enhancing Wayfinding for Seamless Navigation

Beyond the merger, a revamped wayfinding system aims to guide travelers throughout the interconnected terminals and amenities. This will include modernizing signage, standardizing information, and ensuring a cohesive experience from arrival to departure. The goal is to make LAX navigation intuitive, accessible, and responsive to travelers’ needs.

Enhancing First Impressions and Efficiency

“These improvements will create a lasting first and last impression for visitors to our city,” notes a report prepared for the Los Angeles World Airports Board of Airport Commissioners. By standardizing wayfinding, travelers will receive consistent and timely information, enabling them to find their way effortlessly.

Significant Investment, Lasting Impact

The project is estimated to cost approximately .6 million, a significant investment aimed at enhancing the experience of millions of tourists. Airport officials believe it will transform LAX into a world-class hub, elevating the travel experience for locals and visitors alike.
