Coach Sanders Remains Unfazed as 14 Players Hit the Transfer Portal

In recent days, Boulder has been rocked by a wave of player departures from the Colorado Buffaloes football team. A total of 14 players have entered the transfer portal, including former five-star corner Cormani McClain. Given the team’s 4-8 season last year, with just one win in their final nine games, this exodus initially raised concerns.

However, Head Coach Deion Sanders has sought to downplay the potential impact of these departures, confidently stating that his team remains strong and the recruiting team will replenish the roster with top-tier talent.

“I trust our coaches, and please have some faith in me,” Sanders emphasized on Thursday. “We’re good. We’re all right. We’re making a big deal out of nothing.”

Sanders believes that the Buffs can attract and retain the same caliber of players they’ve had in the past, and he doesn’t see the recent departures as a major setback.

Respect for the Departed

When asked about McClain, Sanders expressed no hard feelings towards the Lakeland, Florida native. McClain had initially committed to Miami before switching his allegiance to Colorado after Sanders was named Head Coach.

“I want the best for [McClain], man. I really do,” Sanders said. “I want that kid to soar and be the best possible person and athlete he can be.”

Sanders’ Philosophy: Growth Through Change

Sanders’ son, Shilo Sanders, also made headlines recently with a social media post encouraging potential recruits to reach out to him and his brother, Shedeur Sanders, if they were interested in playing for Colorado.

“That’s how stuff happens,” Sanders explained. “Players recruit players. We do a wonderful job as the staff, but the players need to validate our efforts. They know who the real talents are.”

The Buffs’ Future in Question

Despite Coach Sanders’ optimism, the future of the Colorado Buffs football team remains uncertain. Shedeur Sanders is projected to be a top draft pick in next year’s NFL Draft, and it’s unknown how the remaining roster will perform in the upcoming season.

Regardless, Coach Sanders remains confident in the team’s potential and believes that the Buffs will be competitive in the years to come.

Stay tuned for further updates as the Buffs navigate this period of transition and strive for a brighter future on the gridiron.
