Former New England Patriots legend Rob Gronkowski, affectionately known as “Gronk,” brought his signature fanfare to Fenway Park on Monday, April 15th, as he graced the occasion as the ceremonial first pitch thrower for the Boston Red Sox game against the Cleveland Guardians.

A Spike, Not a Throw

Instead of the conventional throw to home plate, Gronkowski decided to channel his iconic touchdown celebration by “spiking” the ball into the pitcher’s mound. The raucous crowd erupted into an uproar as he raised his right fist in triumph.

Gronkowski’s signature “spike” is a nod to his illustrious career, where he scored an impressive 93 regular-season touchdowns and celebrated each with a thunderous slam of the ball into the turf.

Even Gronkowski’s former quarterback, Tom Brady, who connected with him for 105 touchdowns throughout their illustrious careers, couldn’t resist expressing his approval on social media, exclaiming, “Love seeing that Gronk Spike!!!”

Double the Spikes

Gronkowski’s “spike” at Fenway Park wasn’t his only of the day. He recreated the iconic gesture at the finish line of the 128th Boston Marathon as the Grand Marshall, commemorating his unwavering energy and enthusiasm.
