Daring Rescue: Police Save Infant from Fentanyl Overdose, Link to Suspected Supplier and Fatal Drug Reactions

LA News Center has obtained exclusive access to bodycam footage that captures the nail-biting rescue of an 11-month-old boy from a critical fentanyl overdose. The incident unfolded in January, when police and first responders rushed to a home in Lake Grove, New York, following a desperate call reporting an infant in distress.
“We arrived to find a young boy not breathing,” recalled a police officer. “The ambulance was already on the way, but the situation was dire.”
Medical Intervention
With time of the essence, responders immediately administered Narcan, an opioid antidote. The footage shows the child’s condition gradually improving as he began crying, a sign of recovery.
“Oh, there we go!” exclaimed one rescuer, as the mother’s cheers could be heard in the background.
Father’s Arrest
The infant’s father, whose identity is being withheld to protect his son’s privacy, was promptly arrested. Facing charges including assault, child endangerment, and drug possession, he became the prime suspect in the investigation.
Drug Supplier’s Identity
Subsequent investigation led police to 39-year-old Robert Mauro, an alleged drug dealer. His involvement came to light after a search warrant executed on the father’s phone revealed his connection.
Mauro has been charged with manslaughter for the overdose death of a 31-year-old woman. He has also been accused of tampering with evidence by attempting to discard drugs during a search of his residence in Miller Place.
Prosecutors’ Assertions
“Our investigation has established a direct link between Mauro’s potent drugs and the fatal overdoses,” said Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney. “He knew the dangers of his narcotics and yet continued to deal them, putting countless lives at risk.”
Court Proceedings
Both Mauro and the child’s father are currently being held without bail. Their arraignments are scheduled for later this week. The infant has since made a full recovery and is now in protective custody.
