Deputy Shot in Back by Unseen Gunman in Chilling Ambush

A brazen act of violence unfolded on the busy streets of Los Angeles County on Monday, as a motorcycle deputy from the Sheriff’s Department was shot in the back while stopped at a red light.

The Ambush

The incident occurred shortly before 3 p.m. at the intersection of North Barranca Street and East Garvey Avenue, near Interstate 10. Deputy Samuel Aispuro, a veteran of nearly two decades with LASD, was riding an official motorcycle when the ambush occurred.

Aispuro was wearing a bulletproof vest, which Sheriff Robert Luna credited with saving his life. The bullet, fired from an unknown assailant, struck the deputy in the back and knocked him off his motorcycle. Aispuro was immediately rushed to a nearby medical center for treatment, where he was listed in stable condition.

The Hunt for the Suspect

In the aftermath of the shooting, the LA County Sheriff’s Department launched a massive manhunt for the shooter. Deputies surrounded a home in La Puente, but the individuals detained there were later released due to insufficient evidence linking them to the crime.

Investigators are now actively searching for a white sedan with tinted windows, which was last seen fleeing westbound on Interstate 10 from Barranca Street. The vehicle is believed to have been involved in the incident.

A Call for Help

Sheriff Luna appealed to the public for help in identifying and apprehending the suspect responsible for this cowardly attack. He stressed that any information, no matter how small, could be crucial to the investigation.

“You are our eyes and ears out there,” Luna said. “That’s why we need information coming forward, so we can look at every angle. … Our intent is we’re going to catch them, but we need your help.”

The LASD is urging anyone who witnessed the shooting or has any information about the suspect to contact them immediately. With the public’s assistance, they hope to bring this dangerous individual to justice and restore a sense of safety to the community.
