A Call for Help
At approximately 5:00 AM, Coast Guard watchstanders in San Juan received an urgent plea from the Disney Fantasy, requesting medical evacuation assistance for a 35-year-old passenger who was experiencing complications. The cruise ship was approximately 260 nautical miles northwest of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico.
Swift Response
Without hesitation, a Jayhawk helicopter from Air Station Borinquen and an HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircraft from Air Station Miami were dispatched to the scene. As the aircraft approached, drone footage captured the dramatic rescue unfold.
Precision Airlift
A Coast Guard rescue swimmer rappelled down from the Jayhawk, expertly preparing a rescue basket and litter to transfer the patient and cruise ship doctor aboard the helicopter. The woman, strapped to a gurney and secured to a rope, was then hoisted into the aircraft.
Safe and Swift Evacuation
The Jayhawk airlifted the woman to Fernando Luis Ribas Dominicci Airport in San Juan, where she was immediately transported to Centro Medico Hospital for specialized treatment.
