Ice Cream Stand Owner Dodges Disaster as Out-of-Control Truck Crashes Through Parking Lot

Heart-stopping surveillance footage captured the harrowing moments when an out-of-control truck smashed into a popular Massachusetts ice cream stand’s parking lot, narrowly missing a mother and her baby in a parked car and leaving debris flying.

Caught on Camera: Truck’s Rampage

The incident unfolded at 7:26 p.m. on Sunday when the speeding truck careened off Route 126 in Bellingham, striking a sign stanchion and spraying rocks.

Indestructible, the truck continued its rampage, plowing through a Chevy’s Ice Cream sign, sparking and grazing between two parked vehicles before crashing through a fence and into a neighboring convenience store parking lot.

A Lot Half Full

Despite the chaos, there were no casualties. LA News Center spoke to Shayna Murray, whose family owns Chevy’s Ice Cream, and she expressed gratitude for a fortunate turn of events that saved lives.

“Had we been open, this could have been a disaster,” she exclaimed. “All I could think about was the people enjoying ice cream, listening to music, and walking around. My heart sank at the thought.”

Near Miss at the Nick of Time

The video footage revealed another chilling detail: a parked SUV with a mother and her infant inside was inches away from the truck’s path of destruction.

“They had just stopped by to check if we were open and stayed to chat. When I saw the footage, I couldn’t believe my eyes,” said Murray. “She had her baby on her lap when it happened.”

Chain of Charges

LA News Center reached out to the Bellingham Police Department, and they confirmed charges pending against 38-year-old Robert Marcoux for operating under the influence, operating to endanger, marked lanes violation, and speeding. Additional charges are possible as the investigation progresses.

“We are grateful the incident didn’t result in serious injuries,” Lieutenant Stephen Daigle said. “The occupants of the near-missed vehicle were extremely fortunate. We will thoroughly investigate this incident and ensure Mr. Marcoux is held accountable.”
