Around 9:36 a.m., Deputy Coddou, a seasoned 50-year-old investigator, was assisting with a minor crash investigation on the northbound lanes of Highway 99. With his patrol vehicle positioned on the left shoulder, its right side partially blocking the first lane, Deputy Coddou stepped out to investigate.
Tragically, just minutes later, an unidentified male driving a white Chevrolet Silverado approached the scene at a high speed. Despite the activated emergency lights on Deputy Coddou’s vehicle, the driver failed to take evasive action and veered left, colliding with the deputy in the center median dividing the northbound and southbound lanes.
