Justice Prevails: Driver Convicted in Fatal DUI Crash That Claimed Two Lives
Ventura, California – In a poignant case that gripped the community, a jury found Jacob Anthony Caliboso, 25, of Oxnard, guilty of second-degree murder for a horrific DUI crash that tragically took the lives of Elva Andrade, 55, and her 7-year-old granddaughter, Nevaeh Gomez.
The Unending Agony
On June 22, 2020, while his senses were clouded by Xanax pills and marijuana, Caliboso embarked on a reckless drive along Pleasant Valley Road near Oxnard. With utter disregard for safety, he swerved across the center line, directly into oncoming traffic.
His car collided head-on with a motorcycle carrying Andrade and Gomez. The impact was cataclysmic. Andrade succumbed to her injuries at the scene, while the innocent child passed away the following day at Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles.

The California Highway Patrol ascertained that Caliboso was traveling at approximately 55 miles per hour at the time of the crash. Shockingly, evidence revealed that he had made no attempt to apply the brakes in the moments leading up to the fatal collision.
