**Juvenile Hall Officers Under Scrutiny: Four More Suspended at Embattled Facility**

In a move to quell concerns about violence and misconduct, four probation officers at Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall have been placed on administrative leave. This suspension follows an internal review by the Los Angeles County Probation Department.

**A Troubled History**

Los Padrinos has been under intense scrutiny in recent years, drawing criticism for its conditions and violent incidents. This latest suspension brings the total number of officers on leave to 12, including eight suspended in December after a highly publicized incident.

**”Culture of Violence, Drugs, or Abuse”**

Chief Guillermo Viera Rosa of the Probation Department stated that the suspensions are part of a broader effort to eradicate a “culture of violence, drugs, or abuse” at county juvenile facilities. He emphasizes that the actions of these few officers violate the department’s core values and impede their mission of providing a safe and supportive environment for detained youth.

**External Investigation**

To ensure impartiality, the investigations involving the 12 suspended officers have been handed over to the California Attorney General’s Office. This move aims to foster an independent and fair examination of these incidents.

**Facility Reforms and Challenges**

Chief Rosa has vowed to “wipe the slate clean” at juvenile detention facilities. One significant change includes the consolidation of dispersed juveniles into the renovated Los Padrinos facility last summer.

Despite these efforts, serious incidents have continued to occur, including a gun found inside Los Padrinos, a riot, and two juvenile escapes. Last May, a teenager died of an overdose in custody at another facility, raising questions about staffing shortages.

**Ongoing Investigation and Accountability**

The Probation Department is currently assessing its internal affairs unit and implementing reforms. The ongoing investigation aims to bring clarity, hold officers accountable, and create a safer environment for the juveniles entrusted to their care.
