San Bernardino authorities have confirmed the heartbreaking recovery of a man who perished in a plane crash that occurred Saturday evening. The incident brings a sense of sadness and disbelief to the community.

Preliminary Investigation Unfolds

According to initial information released by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the aircraft involved was a twin-engine Gulfstream AC95. The crash occurred near Palm Avenue and West Verdemont Drive in San Bernardino’s Verdemont neighborhood at approximately 8:21 p.m. Saturday.

Witnesses reported hearing a sputtering sound followed by a thunderous crash and a momentary red flash. “Deputies from the Central Station and San Bernardino Police Department officers rushed to the area,” San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department stated in an official announcement.

Impassable Terrain Challenges Recovery Efforts

Despite their immediate response, rescuers faced significant obstacles. “The mountainous terrain was inaccessible by vehicle or on foot,” the Sheriff’s Department explained. “The Sheriff’s Aviation Division attempted to assist, but weather hampered their efforts.”

On Sunday morning, aerial reconnaissance from a helicopter spotted the wreckage in the mountains north of Devil’s Canyon. A search and rescue team, along with the coroner’s office investigator, were dispatched to the site, where they tragically discovered the remains of a male victim.

Identification and Investigations Ongoing

Authorities have not yet released the victim’s name pending positive identification and notification of next of kin.

No other injuries were reported in the incident. The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are actively investigating the cause of the crash.

The tragic loss of life in this plane crash serves as a reminder of the inherent risks associated with aviation. We extend our deepest condolences to the victim’s family and friends during this difficult time.
