On April 16, 2024, the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) arrested a juvenile male suspect for allegedly shooting another boy shortly after a large gathering of teenagers in The Pike Outlets shopping center ended in a reported brawl.

According to authorities, the incident occurred near The Promenade area shortly after the March 16 disturbance at The Pike Outlets. Officers responded to the scene and found a 16-year-old male victim suffering from a gunshot wound to his lower body.

The victim was transported to a nearby hospital and is currently reported to be in stable condition.

The LBPD obtained security camera footage and identified the juvenile suspect. He was taken into custody in Los Angeles on April 16. Authorities are withholding his identity due to his age.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and no further updates have been provided regarding any motive behind the incident or its possible connection to the gathering at The Pike Outlets on March 16.

The LBPD has asked anyone with information about the shooting to contact the department.

The March 16 commotion at The Pike Outlets drew hundreds of teens following a viral social media post. The LBPD had received information about a planned meeting between two individuals and had officers stationed near the shopping center to maintain order.

Video captured by local media showed two females engaged in a fistfight, surrounded by a large group of teens recording the incident on their phones.

Officers swiftly intervened, breaking up the fight and arresting the two girls involved. The LBPD brought in a bus to transport potential detainees and deployed additional officers to patrol the area.

In response to the incident, the owners of The Pike Outlets closed stores early at around 6 p.m., asking guests to clear out of the area. Anyone who did not comply with the officers’ orders faced the possibility of being arrested.
