USC Graduation Overshadowed by Protests over Israeli-Hamas Conflict
Amidst the jubilation of USC’s graduation festivities, a solemn undercurrent looms as disruptive protests erupt over the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.
Unrest on Campuses

Avi Thawani, a recent USC graduate, expressed hope that any disruptions would remain peaceful.
“It’s unfortunate, especially on such a meaningful day,” Thawani said to LA News Center’s Carlos Herrera. “But it’s important to consider the gravity of the events in Gaza and Israel. I trust there will be peaceful means of demonstrating.”
LAPD Involvement
As of Wednesday morning, the Los Angeles Police Department has not received any requests for assistance from USC.

One faculty member, who requested anonymity, shared their concerns. “It’s a difficult balance. We’re supposed to be celebrating our students’ success, but the situation in Gaza weighs heavily on our minds.”
