The Rap Rivalry that Lit Up Social Media and Now Has a WWE Twist

The intense hip-hop rivalry between Drake and Kendrick Lamar has taken an exciting turn, with WWE legend Shawn Michaels throwing his hat into the ring.

Michaels’ Invitation to Settle the Beef

On Monday, Michaels, the Vice President of Talent Development Creative for WWE NXT, reached out to Drake and Lamar via social media. He wrote on Twitter, “A little Sweet Chin Music goes a long way. @kendricklamar, you and @Drake are formally invited to #WWENXT to settle this thing. I’m even offering my services to mediate.”

As of now, neither Lamar nor Drake have responded to Michaels’ invitation.

A History of Hip-hop Shots

The rivalry between Drake and Lamar has been simmering for some time. Over the past few weeks, the two rappers have traded barbs on diss tracks, including Drake’s “The Heart Part 6” and Lamar’s “Not Like Us.”

The tension dates back to 2011, when Lamar was featured on Drake’s album “Take Care.” After a series of collaborations, Lamar took aim at Drake on Big Sean’s “Control.” Drake seemed to take Lamar’s lyrics personally, and the feud escalated.

Renewing the Rivalry

The rivalry lay dormant for several years until October 2023, when Drake linked up with J. Cole. Drake questioned who the “hardest MC” was, prompting Lamar to respond on Future and Metro Boomin’s “Like That.” The diss tracks ignited the rivalry once more.

Silence Before the Storm?

While there has been no recent activity in the feud since Sunday, the rappers’ social media posts have dominated the headlines. It remains to be seen if they will accept Michaels’ invitation and settle their differences in the squared circle.

One thing is for sure: the hip-hop community and WWE fans alike are eagerly anticipating the next chapter in this captivating rivalry.
