One of Halema’s professors, Samah Qasmieh, spoke highly of her as a diligent student. “I just envision her in her bedroom studying for the exam they have Tuesday, doing nothing wrong at all,” Qasmieh shared with The Chicago Sun-Times.

Maher Kassem, the alleged perpetrator, is expected to appear in bond court soon. Authorities have recovered a gun believed to have been used in the shooting.
