The usage of artificial intelligence (AI) in the workplace is at an all-time high, with three-quarters of professionals relying on AI as a valuable tool. However, concerns about AI’s potential to replace jobs linger in the minds of many employees.

Job Anxiety vs Reality

A recent research by Microsoft and LinkedIn, based on surveys conducted in 31 countries, reveals that while 75% of workers leverage AI in their professional lives, over half are hesitant to acknowledge its use in their most crucial tasks. This apprehension stems from the fear of being deemed replaceable, with 53% of those utilizing AI for vital responsibilities harboring this concern.

Furthermore, nearly half of professionals express anxiety about their jobs being outsourced to AI, prompting some to contemplate leaving their current positions.

Colette Stallbaumer, General Manager of Microsoft Copilot, urges employees to shed their fears and embrace AI. She emphasizes the importance of developing AI skills to enhance marketability and career prospects. By actively engaging with AI and acquiring its capabilities, individuals can gain a competitive edge in today’s technology-driven job market.

AI Aptitude: A Hiring Priority

Hiring for AI expertise has surged by an impressive 323% over the last eight years. Employers recognize the significant value of AI skills, with 66% of leaders affirming that they would pass over candidates lacking AI proficiency. Moreover, 71% of these leaders would favor a less seasoned candidate with AI capabilities over a more experienced applicant without them.

Around 70% believe AI can accelerate their promotions.
