Kansas City, MO

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice has been charged with aggravated assault and serious bodily injury following a car crash on a Texas expressway, Dallas police announced Wednesday.

The Incident

On March 30, Rice was driving a Lamborghini, while a 21-year-old Theodore Knox was driving a Corvette on North Central Expressway. Authorities allege that both drivers were speeding and lost control of their vehicles, colliding into four other cars.

Four people were injured in the incident. Rice and Knox both face the same charges. The passengers in the other vehicles were not charged.

Rice’s Response

In an Instagram post, Rice apologized for his role in the crash and acknowledged his responsibility.

“I sincerely apologize to everyone impacted in Saturday’s accident,” he wrote. “I take full responsibility for my part in this matter and will continue to cooperate with necessary authorities.”

Rice’s lawyer, Royce West, confirmed in a news conference that Rice admitted to Dallas Police that he was involved in the crash.

Super Bowl Success to Arrest Warrant

Rice, a rookie last season, became a key target for quarterback Patrick Mahomes. He finished the season with 938 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. The Chiefs went on to win the Super Bowl, making Rice a champion in his first year.

However, the arrest warrant casts a shadow over his promising career. Rice now faces the consequences of his actions in the expressway crash.

Legal Process

West expressed Rice’s desire to make amends for the injuries and property damage caused by the wreck.

“He understands the gravity of his actions,” said West. “He’s going to do everything in his power to help those affected in any way possible.”

Rice is scheduled to appear in court to face the charges brought against him. The outcome of the case will determine the future of his football career and his life beyond the gridiron.
