Fifth Body Recovered from Francis Scott Key Bridge Wreckage

Baltimore, MD – Divers involved in the ongoing recovery efforts at the Francis Scott Key Bridge have made another tragic discovery. A fifth body has been recovered from the wreckage, bringing the total confirmed fatalities to five.

The body of 49-year-old Miguel Angel Luna Gonzalez of Glen Burnie was found inside a missing construction vehicle that had been located in the Patapsco River.

“Our mission remains to locate and return to their loved ones every person who was lost in this tragedy,” said Colonel Roland L. Butler, Jr., superintendent of the Maryland Department of State Police. “We stand with the families in this difficult time and offer our deepest sympathies.”

Ongoing Search and Recovery

Multiple agencies, including the Maryland State Police Department’s underwater recovery team and the FBI, assisted in lifting the body from the water. The discovery adds to the four other bodies recovered from the site on April 15th.

Tragic Incident

On March 26th, the Sri Lanka-bound cargo ship Dali struck the Key Bridge, causing it to collapse. The impact sent workers into the water, leaving six missing and presumed dead.

Two workers were rescued shortly after the collapse, but the search and recovery effort has taken weeks to locate the remaining individuals.

Impact on Loved Ones

Behind each body lost is a heartbroken family. The recovery team remains committed to providing closure to the families affected by this devastating event.

“We mourn those lost and are dedicated to finding each and every person,” said Butler. “Our search and recovery personnel are tireless in their efforts to ensure that everyone is accounted for.”
