With relentless force, the car then slams into the building, plunging 25 feet into its interior. People can be seen running into the parking lot in horror as the impact occurs off-camera.
Inside the boat club, a festive gathering had turned into a nightmare. A young child’s birthday party was underway when the vehicle tore its way inside. The impact was catastrophic, claiming the lives of two children, a 5-year-old boy and an 8-year-old girl. Amidst the carnage, at least 15 people were injured, nine with life-threatening conditions.
Emergency Responders Describe Scene of Chaos
First responders on the scene described a chaotic scene filled with intense emotions. Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough fought back tears as he addressed the press, “The scene was described by responders as extremely chaotic, with high levels of emotion from those involved and witnesses.”
Law enforcement arrested the suspect, a 66-year-old woman, who was reportedly intoxicated at the time of the incident. Her identity has not yet been released.
