LA Police Department Issues Citywide Tactical Alert

The Los Angeles Police Department has declared a citywide tactical alert Saturday night following a disturbance on the campus of the University of Southern California.

The university released a statement urging people to avoid the area due to a “disruption in the center of campus.”

“Due to a disruption at the center of UPC, please avoid that part area until further notice.”

Details about the disturbance remain limited. However, increased tensions have been prevalent on campus in recent weeks due to pro-Palestinian protests against the war in Gaza. It has not been confirmed whether the protests are related to that issue.

Asna Tabassum, the Class of 2024 valedictorian at USC, was scheduled to deliver a speech at the commencement but was informed by the university that she would not be allowed to for safety reasons.

Nearly 100 demonstrators were arrested at USC on April 25 in connection with pro-Palestinian activities. As a result, the university canceled its main graduation ceremony out of safety concerns.

Colleges across the nation have witnessed rising tensions as students and protestors continue to voice their concerns and demand a cease-fire in the Israel-Hamas war, which continues to plague the Gaza Strip.
