“The Dynasty” Coach Lights Up the “Roast of Tom Brady”

With the grand entrance of Will Ferrell as Ron Burgundy, the audience at the Los Angeles Forum erupted in laughter. But the real surprise came moments later when Bill Belichick, the legendary New England Patriots head coach, stepped on stage.

Belichick’s Self-Deprecating Start

“It’s an honor to be at the ‘Roast of Tom Brady.’ Not to be confused with the 10-part Bill Belichick roast in the ‘The Dynasty’ documentary,” Belichick quipped, acknowledging the recent Apple TV series chronicling the Patriots’ reign under him and Brady.

Poking Fun at Gronk

The coach then turned his wit towards tight end Rob Gronkowski, currently an NFL analyst with Fox. “People tell me I invented the phrase ‘Do your job.’ Gronk, I’ve been watching you on ‘Fox NFL Sunday,’ and please, stop doing your job,” Belichick said, much to the delight of the audience.

“Great player, but…maybe stick to endorsements like your beloved Campbell’s Soup, Dunkin’ Donuts, and…Tide Pods.”

Rescuing Randy Moss

Belichick also had a few words for Hall of Fame wide receiver Randy Moss. “Listen, Randy, I’m really sorry you didn’t get a ring. It’s not enough for me to give you one of mine, but I am sorry.”

Roasting Brady, the GOAT

Finally, Belichick turned his attention to the evening’s honoree, Tom Brady. “Tom, you’re the greatest of all time, no question. That’s why we’re all here. But…I’m running out of time,” he teased.

“I see your soccer team, Birmingham City, got relegated again. Not so easy running a team, is it, Tom? Stick to American football.”

Belichick even poked fun at Brady’s long-time trainer, Alex Guerrero. “They say Tom and I butted heads, but not really. It was hard to butt heads with Tom because he was so far up Alex Guerrero’s…well, you know.”

Applause for Belichick’s Humor

Despite his reputation for being serious, Belichick’s jokes had the crowd in stitches. He showed a side of himself that few had seen before, proving that even the most celebrated coaches can have a sense of humor.

“Kevin Hart commended Belichick for showing up and having fun with Brady in a memorable moment for sports and entertainment.”
