Maxwell Azzarello, the man who died after setting himself on fire amidst the former President Trump’s hush money trial, briefly worked for Democratic Congressman Tom Suozzi in 2013. Suozzi, currently representing Nassau County, has denounced the tragic incident and expressed his condolences to Azzarello’s family.

Azzarello’s Connection to Suozzi

As per Azzarello’s LinkedIn profile, he was employed as an Operations Director for Friends of Tom Suozzi during the candidate’s run for Nassau County Executive seven years ago. His responsibilities included organizing logistics, preparing the candidate for debates, and drafting press releases.

The Self-Immolation Incident

On Friday evening, around 1:30 p.m., Azzarello ignited himself in Collect Pond Park near the Manhattan Criminal Courthouse, where the hush money trial was being held. He was pronounced dead nine hours later at Bellevue Hospital Center.

Suozzi’s Response

“It is tragic that he has succumbed to his injuries,” said Suozzi in a statement to the New York Post. “I am keeping Max and his family in my prayers. Even though I haven’t seen or talked to Max since then I recall him being very kind, smart and hardworking.”

A Complex Character

While Azzarello’s career had a brief overlap with Suozzi’s political campaign, the motivations behind his self-immolation remain unclear. A New York City Police Department spokesman stated that he was in possession of a pamphlet containing conspiracy theories and an online link to his Substack page.

Ongoing Investigation

The circumstances surrounding Azzarello’s death are still being investigated by the authorities. The NYPD has declined to comment further on the incident until the investigation is complete.
