A man’s search for shed deer antlers took a somber turn when he stumbled upon the skeletal remains of a person who had been missing since 2019, according to LA News Center.

Discovery of the Skeletal Remains

The shed hunter alerted authorities on April 27 after discovering the remains in the Hansel Mountains southeast of Snowville, Utah. The Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office dispatched deputies and a search and rescue crew to the location.

The remains were collected and identified by the Utah Office of the Medical Examiner using dental records as those belonging to Matthew Broncho.

Identification of the Deceased Man

Matthew Broncho, 35, had been reported missing on March 24, 2019, out of Fort Hall, Idaho.

Following the discovery of the remains, the sheriff’s office extended its condolences to Broncho’s family and acknowledged the unanswered questions that remain.

At the time of Broncho’s disappearance, his pickup truck was found abandoned on I-84 exit 7 in Snowville. His wallet and phone were also located inside the vehicle.

A search conducted by the sheriff’s office and volunteers initially located Broncho’s dog, but no sign of the missing man was found.

Ongoing Investigation and Closure for the Family

Although the discovery of Broncho’s remains provides closure for his family, the investigation remains active. The sheriff’s office assures the public that they are working to provide answers to the unanswered questions.
