On April 25, 2024, a horrific incident took place at an Anaheim senior living complex, resulting in the death of two individuals. The shooting, which occurred at 3:40 p.m., left one woman dead at the scene, while the alleged gunman later died by suicide in a standoff with the police.

Victim Identified

The victim, identified as 59-year-old Anaheim resident Ana Monterrosa, was the apartment complex manager. According to Joe Guerrero, a resident at the complex, Monterrosa was shot four times in her office.

Witness Account

Guerrero, who was speaking to Monterrosa at the time of the shooting, recounted the horrific experience: “He just came up to her and shot her four times. I just can’t believe what happened. I thought he was going to shoot me next, but he just looked at me and took off.”

Suspect Identified and Cause of Death Revealed

The suspect in the shooting was identified as 67-year-old Brian Lawrence. Following the initial incident, Lawrence barricaded himself inside his third-floor apartment, triggering a standoff with the police. At 9:30 p.m., officers entered Lawrence’s apartment and discovered him deceased. The Anaheim Police Department has ruled Lawrence’s death as a suicide.

Investigation and Aftermath

Authorities have stated that there are no outstanding suspects in the case. The motive for the shooting and the nature of the relationship between Monterrosa and Lawrence are still unknown.
