High Winds Cause Damage, Delays Across Southern California

Tree Crashes into Vehicles in Culver City

Strong winds generated by a wind advisory battered Southern California on Sunday, causing damage and delays across the region. In Culver City, a massive tree was uprooted and crashed onto three vehicles near the intersection of Washington Boulevard and Wade Street.

According to the Culver City Police Department, no one was injured in the incident. Emergency responders cleared the large tree, temporarily closing the intersection.

BeachLife Festival Delays Performances

The gusty winds also impacted the third and final day of the BeachLife Festival in Redondo Beach. Festival organizers announced a one-hour evacuation from the venue due to the high winds.

“Out of an abundance of caution, BeachLife is temporarily evacuating the festival for ONE HOUR due to high winds,” the festival organizers stated. “Stand by.”

My Morning Jacket, Sugar Ray, ZZ Top, and the Fleet Foxes were among the artists scheduled to perform on the final day of the festival.

Construction Site Scaffolding Collapse in Hollywood

In Hollywood, a four or five-story scaffolding structure collapsed, impacting nearby power lines. The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the scene, keeping the area clear and ensuring no injuries.

Photos obtained by LA News Center show emergency responders securing the area after the scaffolding fell.

Wind Advisory Remains in Effect

A wind advisory remains in effect for parts of Los Angeles, Orange, and Ventura Counties until 9 p.m. Sunday. Strong winds are expected to continue, with potential for further damage and delays.
