In response to these concerns, the California Interagency Council on Homelessness (Cal ICH) shifted responsibility to local governments, claiming they must be held accountable for the ineffective use of funds.
When contacted by the LA News Center, a Santa Monica city spokesperson emphasized the ongoing housing crisis and the city’s commitment to affordable housing as mandated by the Housing Element. They also highlighted the dedication of several city-owned sites for affordable housing projects, which they believe will significantly reduce costs and achieve the mandates outlines in the Housing Element.
