A Shift in the Investigation

Initially, authorities believed the fatal crash on April 15th involved a hit-and-run suspect. However, further investigation has prompted a revision in their stance.

“The investigation has determined that this was not a hit-and-run as initially reported,” stated the California Highway Patrol (CHP) in an official release.

Details of the Incident

Jacob Fuerte, a 22-year-old recruit on his way to the LAFD training academy, was driving his car on the northbound 101 Freeway near Vineland Avenue in Studio City.

For reasons yet to be fully determined, Fuerte’s vehicle collided with another car. The impact proved fatal, and he sadly passed away at the scene.

Honoring a Fallen Hero

Jacob Fuerte’s passing has left an immeasurable void for his family, friends, and the LAFD. He was described as a dedicated and aspiring young man who was eager to serve his community.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Recruit Jacob Fuerte,” said LAFD Chief Kristin Crowley. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and the entire LAFD family during this difficult time.”

The CHP continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. They urge anyone who witnessed the incident or has any relevant information to come forward.
